Bento cake box 170×170×150 mm: self-assembling packaging for desserts

Bento cakes have become a staple of confectionery menus, and with them came the demand for proper packaging: a bento cake box has to be compact, food-safe and work for the brand at the same time. This case features a self-assembling bento box, 170×170×150 mm, which we designed and produced for a confectionery brand.

Glue-free construction

The box is die-cut from a single blank: the inner body and the outer sleeve with the lid form one piece. The walls lock together with die-cut tabs, so assembly takes seconds and requires no glue or tape. The confectionery receives flat blanks that take up almost no storage space — convenient for a small workshop and for chain production alike.

Design built into the structure

The inner walls are deep burgundy, the outer sleeve is cream with fine line graphics. When the box is folded, triangular burgundy segments open up on the side faces: the packaging communicates “premium product inside” without any additional elements or glued-on parts.

Material and food safety

The base is SBS cellulose board, 350 g/m²: white on both sides, rigid and suitable for direct food contact. Printing is offset, in three brand colours with food-grade spot inks — and only on the outer side, so the dessert touches the clean, unprinted surface of the board.

Matte lamination

The outer side is covered with matte lamination: it protects the print from moisture, grease and fingerprints and gives the box a velvety, premium-feeling texture. For packaging the customer carries home in their hands, this finish is a modest cost with a tangible effect on brand perception.

Custom die and a library of ready-made dies

The cutting die for this project was made from scratch. If you need custom packaging, that does not always mean paying for new tooling: our library holds over 3,000 ready-made cutting dies, so an existing construction can often be matched to your size, saving you money. And when standard solutions do not fit, our technologists will develop a box of any complexity for your product.
