Premium 200×200×100 mm cardboard bag with Pantone printing and matte lamination

A branded paper bag is the part of the packaging that keeps working for the brand after the purchase: it leaves the store with the customer, hands over gifts, and gets kept for later. This case study by the Pergament printing house (Chisinau, Moldova) shows how cardboard, a single Pantone ink and well-chosen finishing add up to a premium-level bag.

Format and construction

The bag measures 200×200×100 mm: a square front with a 100 mm gusset, convenient for perfumery, cosmetics, candles, gift sets and corporate presents. The bag is die-cut from a single 620×298 mm cardboard blank and fitted with handles made of 25 mm white grosgrain ribbon. The dense woven ribbon feels pleasant in the hand and carries the weight of the contents, while the contrast of light handles against the deep dark body becomes a design element in its own right.

Material and printing: Pantone colour and knockout lettering

The base is SBS cellulose board with a density of 230 g/m²: rigid, dimensionally stable, with a smooth white surface. The bag is offset-printed with a single Pantone spot colour (1+0). This approach is chosen when brand-colour accuracy matters: a Pantone ink delivers a deep, even shade on solid coverage and the same colour from one print run to the next. The solid ink covers the entire blank, including flaps and crease lines, so no white board shows on the edges after assembly. The lettering is done as a knockout — the letters remain unprinted, and their whiteness comes from the board itself: a laconic contrast of light typography on a deep burgundy-chocolate background.

Matte lamination

The print is covered with one-sided matte roll lamination: a thin polymer film removes glare, gives the surface a soft velvety feel and protects the dark solid from scratches, abrasion and fingerprints — without such a coating, a solid dark colour quickly loses its looks. It is the combination of a deep Pantone colour and a matte surface that creates the premium perception of the packaging.

A ready-made cutting die — savings for the customer

The bag format is a popular one, so die-cutting is done with a ready-made form from the Pergament library of more than 3,000 cutting dies: this saves on tooling and shortens the production time. For non-standard constructions, the printing house develops individual dies for the project.

Full production cycle in Chisinau: prepress, Pantone offset printing, matte roll lamination, die-cutting and fitting the bag with ribbon handles. Pergament produces custom cardboard packaging — from bags and gift boxes to complex individual constructions — for brands in Moldova and for export.
