Gift packaging: a 200×200×100 mm cardboard bag with gold foil stamping

A branded paper bag is the part of the packaging that keeps working for the brand after the purchase: it is carried around town, used to hand over gifts, and kept for later. This case study by the Pergament printing house (Chișinău, Moldova) shows how a standard-format cardboard bag becomes premium packaging through printing and finishing.

Format and construction

The bag measures 200×200×100 mm: a square front with a 100 mm gusset, convenient for cosmetics, self-care sets, candles and small gifts. The bag is assembled from a single die-cut blank and fitted with 25 mm grosgrain ribbon handles; the ribbon shade is matched to the finished print so it lands exactly in the design palette.

Material and printing

The base is 230 g/m² SBS cellulose board. Its smooth coated surface ensures accurate colour reproduction in full-colour CMYK offset printing, while the white reverse gives the bag a neat look inside. The design — a full-surface illustration in the style of vintage botanical engraving with peacocks, palms and flowers — flows continuously from the front onto the side panels.

Matte lamination and gold foil

The print is covered with matte roll lamination: a thin polymer film protects the image from abrasion, moisture and fingerprints and gives the surface a soft, velvety feel. The logo is hot-stamped with gold foil on both wide faces of the bag — two individual stamping dies were produced for it. The contrast of a matte surface and metallic gold shine is a proven premium-packaging solution: the finishing visibly raises the perceived value of the product at a moderate cost.

A ready-made cutting die — savings for the client

The bag format is a common one, so die-cutting was done with a ready-made form from Pergament’s library of more than 3,000 cutting dies. This saves the client the cost of tooling and shortens production time; for non-standard constructions the printing house develops individual dies for the project.

Full production cycle in Chișinău: prepress, CMYK offset printing, matte roll lamination, die production and gold foil stamping, die-cutting and fitting the bag with ribbon handles. Pergament manufactures custom cardboard packaging — from bags and gift boxes to complex individual constructions — for brands in Moldova and for export.
